Application Materials
Prerequisite Courses
The Seattle School does not require any prerequisite coursework or specific undergraduate degree(s) to be eligible for admission to our graduate programs. However, applicants must have earned a four-year baccalaureate degree or its full educational equivalent from a college or university accredited by a U.S. accreditation association holding membership in the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, in the Association of Universities and Colleges in Canada, or from an institution which maintains similar academic requirements and standards.
General admission requirements include a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). A list of recommended courses can be found here.
Essays
Application Essays are used for both assessment and placement. Students may be admitted on academic probation and/or required to attend a The Seattle School Writing Workshop when application essays are deemed unsatisfactory. Application essay topics are included in the application and may be mailed to The Seattle School (care of the Admissions Department) or emailed to admissions@theseattleschool.edu.
Curriculum Vitae (CV)
All applicants must send in a Curriculum Vitae (CV) at part of their application process. A CV is akin to a résumé but allows for a more detailed synopsis of your background and skills. Your CV may include a summary of your academic and work-related background as well as personal experience, training, qualifications, honors, affiliations and other noteworthy information. Your CV does not have to be pertinent to the specific degree program you are applying for and can serve to provide the Admissions Review Committee with a more robust snapshot of your experience. Please outline the dates, length, position title, and any responsibilities you performed. CVs should be limited to 2-3 pages and may be mailed to The Seattle School (care of the Admissions Office) or emailed to admissions@theseattleschool.edu.
Letter of Recommendation
Applicants should distribute The Seattle School Letter of Recommendation forms to two to three references. References should include pastors, mentors, employers or other significant women or men who might be familiar with the your maturity, integrity and biblical depth. MACP applicants are encouraged to submit a recommendation from a counselor or therapist who can speak to the above qualities as well as the applicant’s capacity for self-reflection. Do not submit references from family, friends or acquaintances.
Recommendation forms may be mailed to The Seattle School (care of the Office of Admissions), submitted via email to admissions@theseattleschool.edu or faxed (206.876.6195).
Transcripts
Request official transcripts directly from all of the colleges and universities you have attended. These should be submitted directly from the institution to The Seattle School Office of Admissions.
Fee
After you complete the Application Form, you will be required to submit a $50 application fee. You can make this payment through PayPal and instructions are included at the end of the Application Form.
Entrance Exam
An entrance exam is not required for students with a 3.0 GPA or above. The GRE or the MAT is required for anyone with a GPA lower than 3.0 and may be required in extenuating circumstances at the discretion of the Admissions Review Committee.
Applicants taking an entrance exam may choose between the Miller Analogies Test or the Graduate Record Examinations.
Miller Analogies Test (MAT) scores must be less than 2 years old. You must request that The Psychological Corporation send your original test scores to The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology. The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology reporting code for the MAT is 2499. For a testing center in your area, call 1-800-622-3231.
Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) test scores may be used to complete the requirement for admission to all The Seattle School degree programs. The GRE General Test measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking and analytical writing skills. Scores must be less than 2 years old. You must request that The Educational Testing Service send your original test scores to The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology. The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology reporting code for the GRE is 4895. For a testing center in your area, call 1-800-GRE-CALL or find a center and register online at etsis4.ets.org/tcenter
The Seattle School is looking for MAT scores in the 400-500 range, GRE verbal scores in the 400-500 range and GRE quantitative scores in the 500-600 range. Students who have already received a master's degree from another accredited institution are not required to submit any test score.
At The Seattle School we understand that a test score cannot evaluate a person’s character, emotional awareness or depth of spirit. We require a test score as a tool for assessing readiness for graduate level coursework, but we consider these scores in relationship with the other application materials submitted. MAT/GRE scores that fall below the ranges we are looking for will still be considered but may result in academic probation for the first semester of matriculation.
